Almost always because it has loosened off the tack strip. Carpet is installed under tension, and humidity, heavy furniture being dragged across it and years of foot traffic all let that tension go. Re-stretching pulls it taut again and re-secures the edges. It is not a sign the carpet is worn out, and replacing it would be replacing something that is still perfectly good.

Usually, yes. The damaged section is cut out and a patch of matching carpet is bonded in its place. Done well it is very difficult to find afterwards.

We take it from somewhere nobody looks: a closet floor, under a bed, behind a door. That area then gets the closest match we can source. It is the standard approach, and it trades an invisible compromise in a closet for an invisible repair in the middle of the room.

Often. A discolored spot is not dirt, and no amount of cleaning will bring the color back, because the color is gone rather than covered up. Color repair puts dye back into the fiber and blends it to the carpet around it. How close it gets depends on the fiber and how far the color went, so this is one we look at first and tell you honestly.

If the carpet is otherwise sound and the problem is local, whether that is ripples, one burn, an open seam, a discolored spot, or a patch the dog got to, repair is a fraction of the cost and a fraction of the disruption. If the pile is crushed flat across whole rooms or the backing has broken down, replacement is the honest answer and we will say so.
